Who We Are
Aron Pederson , MA, MFT
Associate Marriage And Family Therapist
We often believe that the physical or emotional resources that we desire are limited or scarce. We engage in attitudes and behaviors that achieve short-term gains at the cost of lasting satisfaction, contentment, or peace of mind. These patterns of behavior can eventually impede our very ability to recognize or experience what might assist us in moving toward our goals and heartfelt desires.
In my early twenties, I unexpectedly found myself feeling emotionally and spiritually empty and stuck. My parents had recently separated, our family home was foreclosed on, several of my siblings moved to different parts of the world, and I was in a dead-end work/school situation. To help myself cope with these major changes, I spent some time avoiding my pain, not knowing how to ask for help, which only made things worse. After realizing that what I was doing was no longer working well for me and that my life felt like it was imploding, I decided to reach out for support.
This led me to begin a journey of self-discovery and difficult examination. I became an active participant in a long-term peer support group and began receiving my own personal therapy for unresolved family of origin pain, unprocessed losses, and mismanaged insecurities. Pursuing vulnerability and authenticity with trusted others and going to work on myself allowed me to feel more grounded, present, and free; as well as, able to move away from unhelpful patterns of behavior.
As a therapist, I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in exploring the context and roots of their personal story, increasing their capacity in life, and learning to harness their places of vulnerability as potential sources of strength. I offer a space for my clients to bring their whole selves, the “messy” parts too, and engage in a collaborative process that will empower them toward their goals and holistic change.
