"Throughout my teenage years and early twenties I was plagued by a deep sense of inadequacy and unworthiness. I walked around hyper-aware of my perceived flaws and failures with a relentless inner dialogue that reminded me “You aren’t good enough.” I found myself anxiety ridden and exhausted all the time as I kept trying to prove my worth to others. Unsuccessfully, I tried to find ways to soothe these painful feelings through unhealthy relationships and addictive behaviors that ultimately left me feeling more ashamed and unworthy.
After a series of failed relationships and unmanageable anxiety I sought out a therapist. The process of therapy, terrifying as it seemed, helped me understand where my messages of inadequacy were coming from (namely, painful childhood experiences). The unconditional acceptance of my therapist as we sifted through my messiness was incredibly healing. My therapist kindly and gently helped me begin to understand the reason behind some of my unhealthy ways of coping. As I began the process of self-examination, I felt more freedom to be myself with others. Rather than striving for perfection, I began to strive for vulnerability and authenticity. The therapeutic relationship was the first place I practiced letting my guard down and allowing myself to be fully accepted for who I was, flaws and strengths combined.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist I believe in the power and healing of a non-judgmental and compassionate space for you to come and explore the barriers that are keeping you from engaging life in a wholehearted way. Through our therapeutic relationship we will work at your pace to begin unleashing the shame, destructive inner voices, and debilitating pain that is keeping you from living a life of connectedness and joy."
