Who We Are
Ruby Tovar-Morin , MS MFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
“When I was 16, I decided I wanted be a therapist. What I didn’t know then was why I was so attracted to the idea of helping people. As a college student I realized that trying to be what other people needed helped me feel in control. Keeping it together was very important to me. I had rules to follow: don’t cry, don’t express, don’t feel, be strong, and move on. But that didn’t work for long. I eventually found myself in therapy and began working through my own life story. There I acknowledged that I had an immense amount of sadness, anger and resentment about my family dynamics. I realized that my unhealthy strategies were an attempt to cope with those painful experiences. I saw clearly that my past was corrupting my present. So I learned to grieve and feel all over again. This was truly freeing and allowed me to have deeper and healthier relationships.
As a therapist, I will help you face where you have been and what you have lived through to help you understand your present. We’ll focus on how you are currently doing, your behavior, and your feelings. We’ll explore your relationships, your thoughts and then look back at your life to make sense of it all. I know this process can be scary, but it won’t be as painful as when it happened. It will create freedom and a more whole you, allowing you to have closer and deeper relationships. I invite you to join me in this process of moving through your past to a renewed present where old wounds no longer corrupt your life or have power over you.”
