Getting Triggered: A CEU Workshop For Helpers

Working with others will inevitably tap into our own stuff some days.  Someone's loss, betrayal, anger or childhood story is painfully familiar and we find ourselves face to face with countertransference, emotionally overwhelmed, over-identifying or slipping into fix it mode.  We’ll talk about how to recognize triggers in the moment, what to do about them and how to take care of ourselves and our helping relationships in the process. 

 

Educational Objectives

•increase awareness and acknowledgement of counter- transference 
•identify particpant’s unique triggers 
•learn how to contain counter transference and triggers while in session with clients
•create a strategy for personal processing outside of session to increase self awareness, decrease reactivity and increase effectiveness

•Fee is nonrefundable except for extenuating circumstances.

•The Soul Care House is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Famiy Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFT’s, LCSW’S, LPCC’s and/or LEP’s. Certificate will be available at the close of the workshop. The Soul Care House maintains responsibility for this program/course and it’s content.

The Facilitator 

Elaine Martens Hamilton is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and is the Founder and Executive Director of The Soul Care House, a Marriage and Family Therapy private practice in Mission Hills, CA.  She leads workshops and retreats on issues of emotional and spiritual growth and has also served as Adjunct Professor for Bethel Seminary’s MFT program.  She wrote Church on the Couch, Leave the Mud and Learn to Soar and coauthored Come with Me.  Elaine holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a Master of Arts in Theological Studies.  

 

Grievence Policy

When a participant, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint they must submit their grievance to Elaine Hamiton at [email protected] and the following actions will be taken.
1 The participants will be asked to put their concerns in writing.
2 If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The Soul Care House Admin. will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual. 
3 If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its’ content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, The Soul Care House Admin. will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Soul Care House Admin.will: a. attempt to move the participant to another workshop or b. provide a credit for a subsequent year's workshop  or c. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee. 
Actions 3b and 3c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
